Inter and AC Milan could be playing their home matches in the new San Siro stadium by 2025, with the footballing side of the project being prioritised, according to a report in the Italian print media today.
As has been reported today by La Gazzetta dello Sport, the two clubs are desperate for work to begin on the stadium as they believe the additional revenue will amount to around €120 million each season for each club.
Inter CEO Steven Zhang still has to give the definitive green light for the project but it is not expected that Suning will pull out of the €1.2 billion project despite their financial woes.
The plan is for the two Milan teams to be playing in the new stadium by 2025, with work to the commercial area around the stadium beginning immediately afterwards.
This is expected to take another 36-48 months meaning it will not be ready for the Winter Olympics in 2026.
