Inter boss Simone Inzaghi will have been encouraged by the performances that Stefan de Vrij exhibited during the international break with The Netherlands, according to a report in the Italian print media today.

As has been reported by Corriere dello Sport, Stefan de Vrij put in a substandard performance against Sassuolo in Inter’s last match before the international break.

This led many to wonder if the defender needed a break to rest his legs and get back to his best, but he played both of The Netherlands’ fixtures during the international break against Gibraltar and Latvia and despite the level of the opponents, he was impressive.

He still appears to be favoured over Juventus defender Matthijs de Ligt, being chosen in both games ahead of him to play alongside Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk.

Simone Inzaghi will want Stefan de Vrij to carry this form into the match against Lazio on Saturday evening.
