Inter midfielder has been left out of the squad to face Sheriff Tiraspol in the Champions League this evening, but should return in time for the Serie A clash with Juventus on the weekend.

This according to Italian news outlet Gazzetta.it, who report that the Turkish midfielder is being rested against Sheriff with a view to being ready to play against the Bianconeri.

Calhanoglu was only able to appear off the bench in the Nerazzurri’s match against Lazio on the weekend, having sustained a minor ankle bruise while on international duty with Turkey.

The 27-year-old trained with the squad as normal yesterday in preparation for the Sheriff clash, but coach Simone Inzaghi has decided not to include him in the squad for the Champions League fixture.

This is reportedly to allow him a day’s rest while he recovers in time for the key head-to-head clash when the Nerazzurri host Juventus on Sunday.
