Inter Defender Danilo D’Ambrosio: “Celebrated With Denzel Dumfries Because Our Strength Is The Group”

Inter defender Danilo D’Ambrosio has emphasized the importance of the collective in achieving positive results after the Nerazzurri’s 2-0 win over Empoli yesterday evening.

Speaking to InterTV after the match, the 33-year-old explained that he chose to celebrate his opener with Denzel Dumfries in order to show his solidarity with the Dutchman who has not totally settled in at the club.

Dumfries came under some fire in the media following the penalty he conceded late on against Juventus on Sunday at the San Siro, with some suggesting that he has not been able to establish himself as a Nerazzurri players.

However, as D’Ambrosio made clear, he and the rest of the squad have total sympathy for the Dutchman, and understand the reasons why so far he has only been able to show his best qualities in flashes in his first few months at the club.

He saw dedicating the goal to his teammate as “A necessary gesture. Regardless of the player, it was right to underline the strength of the group.

“There is a ‘ae’ and that’s what has allowed us to make the difference in recent years.”

“I try to do my defending and then when I can I try to finish as well as I can,” he said of his goal. “Alexis gave me a nice ball and I finished it well.”

“I think my career speaks for me,” he went on.

“I don’t speak with words but with actions. The same thing happened in other seasons too, working hard must be a constant in my career and that’s what I always try to do.”

“I think there has been a change,” he went on, “the last two goals we’ve conceded were from a free kick in the Champions League and a penalty against Juventus. We will work to avoid conceding even on dead balls.”

And on the praise of former teammate Marco Andreolli he said, “We have the same way of doing things, even Andreolli was a player like me who always gave his best when called upon, so I give him back the same compliment.”
