Italian journalist Ivan Zazzaroni believes that Inter showed their quality more than AC Milan did in yesterday evening’s derby draw between the two.
Writing in today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, Zazzaroni praised the Nerazzurri’s performance and suggested that they expressed themselves more than the Rossoneri despite not being able to take three points from the match.
Inter played with more possession than their city rivals and looked to impose a more proactive style of play on the match as they searched for a winning goal that would cut the deficit at the top of the Serie A table to four points.
However, their efforts proved futile as they spurned a number of good opportunities, not least the penalty which Lautaro Martinez had saved by Rossoneri goalkeeper Ciprian Tatarusanu, perhaps the moment that should have rewarded their performance with a clear-cut result.
Zazzaroni gave the view that “It was Tatarusanu’s hand that slowed Inter, preventing a reshuffle in the city and in the table. By denying the penalty taken by Lautaro, Maignan’s substitute stopped all kinds of turning poitns, in particular the victory in the derby of Inzaghi’s team who for over seventy minutes gave a better account of themselves than Milan, the protagonist exclusively of an intense match in which they still couldn’t find success.”
“Milan and Inter clashed with very different styles,” he went on, “some of which were surprising. I think for example of the performances of Perisic and Calhanoglu, the former detested, the latter best in the field together with Daniele Doveri, the referee.”
