Legendary former Inter striker Christian Vieri believes that the current Nerazzuri team have already surpassed their previous two coaches by reaching the Champions League knockouts.

Speaking on his Twitch channel, the 48-year-old emphasized that this Inter team under Simone Inzaghi have found their footing in Europe after having failed there under Luciano Spalletti and Antonio Conte.

The Nerazzurri have enjoyed increasingly positive form domestically over the past few seasons under Spalletti and Conte, culminating in last season’s Scudetto win, their first in eleven years.

In Europe, however, it has been a different story with both coaches failing to get out of the group stage of the continent’s top competition.

In each season there have been encouraging signs, but in crucial group stage matches the team has failed to get the results that it has needed to progress.

Not so this campaign, however, with Inzaghi having guided the team to the round of sixteen and potentially beyond.

“The past three years Inter went out in the group stage,” Vieri stated, “but that is normal.”

“It’s hard to go and win when you haven’t been in the Champions League for 6-7 years,” he added. “You need to have a path, you need to beat Spalletti and Conte, but you can see the way they play this season. Anything can happen in the second round.”
