Inter coach Simone Inzaghi has expressed his sadness at having never had the chance to train Christian Eriksen, according to a report in the Italian broadcast media tonight.
Speaking ahead of the match against Salernitana on Friday night to Sky Sport, via FCInter1908, the Inter boss explained that he would have liked to have worked with the midfielder who today had his Inter contract terminated by mutual consent.
“I’m very sorry not to have trained him, I send him a huge hug. I wish him good luck. It would have been a great pleasure to train him.”
Christian Eriksen suffered a cardiac arrest in Denmark’s first game of EURO 2020 in the summer against Finland in Copenhagen. He was given medical attention on the pitch and taken to hospital where he was announced as stable.
The defibrillator he now has fitted means that he can no longer play professional football in Italy any more but he will pursue his career elsewhere.
Simone Inzaghi also emphasised the need for his team to be ready for a tough match against Salernitana on Friday evening.
“It is not an easy match, the team is aware of it. They are an opponent that has played excellent matches at home, they will have to play an important game.
“Beyond putting pressure on them, we must look at ourselves, we know what they are waiting for us tonight, we have to be tough.
“Our path is still long and difficult, we have many games: now we have two matches that are the eighth and the ninth game in a short time. We will have to be mentally strong to take one game at a time.”
