Former Fiorentina, Hellas Verona, and Bari midfielder Antonio Di Gennaro believes that Inter’s Nicolo Barella is continually improving.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster TMW Radio, the 63-year-old highlighted the Nerazzurri midfielder’s continued development as well as his emerging leadership qualities.

Barella joined Inter from Cagliari in the summer of 2019 with significant experience already, and his quality was more than evident to have convinced the Nerazzurri on a move.

However, he was far from the finished article at the time, and in the two and half seasons he has spent with the club he has already seen even further improvement from the player he was in Sardinia.

Now, in addition to his skill and impact on the pitch, Di Gennaro believes that the 24-year-old’s experience and character are beginning to manifest into a role as more of a leader within the team.

Speaking about players who he considers to have been the most impressive in 2021, he stated that “The Italian midfielder to have impressed me most is Barella, he has continued to grow and looks more and more like a leader.”
