Inter are ready to offer captain Samir Handanovic a contract extension past this summer, and he could compete for a starting spot with Andre Onana next season.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, who report that the 37-year-old will be offered a new deal and that he could still be in contention for the starting role.

Onana is all set to arrive at Inter on a free transfer from Ajax in the summer, and the Cameroonian will be the long-term successor to Handanovic in goal.

The captain’s current deal expires at the end of June, but the club are set to offer him an extension for at least one more season while Onana settles in.

Should Handanovic decide to accept Inter’s offer and stay on it is not to be taken for granted that he will be a backup for Onana, but instead he could still be in contention to start alongside the 25-year-old.
