Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi has requested that the club sign a backup option for Ivan Perisic on the left side of the team during the January transfer window.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who report that the coach has made it a priority that a player who can back up the Croat be brought in this month.

Perisic has been one of the Nerazzurri’s most consistent performers across the season so far, and the only player in the squad who can fill in for him is Federico Dimarco who is seen as more of a centre-back in profile.

Accordingly, Inzaghi has asked that the club sign a player who can bolster the options in the left-sided position in case the 32-year-old is out or needs a rest.

It remains to be seen whether the Nerazzurri will be able to bring in a suitable option, but CEO Beppe Marotta and Sporting Director Piero Ausilio are working on identifying the right player.
