Nerazzurri New Boy Robin Gosens: “Inter Transfer Marvelous, Only Human To Consider Newcastle’s Big Money Offer”

Robin Gosens is very glad to have made the switch to Inter from Atalanta during the January transfer window, and feels that it’s the right career move for him.

Speaking to German news outlet Kicker, the 27-year-old admitted that he considered a big-money offer from Premier League side Newcastle United but spoke of the Nerazzurri as the right sporting project for him at this stage.

Inter moved fast to sign Gosens, having considered a number of profiles for the left wing-back position before deciding to swoop for a player they have long admired during the last week or so of the transfer window.

The Nerazzurri have signed a player who could prove to be the perfect option to strengthen the team long-term, and the German for his part also feels that he has found the perfect team.

Gosens is happy to have made the move from Bergamo to a team where he can continue his development on the pitch and compete for trophies.

Of the initial offer from Newcastle, he said that “I thought about it, but I never really considered a transfer there. I think it’s only human to consider it – if you can earn so much more than you have been for doing the same job elsewhere.”

“Find me someone who would have simply said ‘no thank you,'” he went on. “It’s not just about me, I could probably have supported a few more generations of my family with that money.”

“But when I have to decide something, I always make a list of the pros and cons and then see which one prevails,” he explained.

“And with this offer the pros were clearly playing in the Premier League, and the lucrative contract offer, but the cons were a few too many,” he continued.

Gosens explained that “I would have jeopardized my sporting goals. At the end of my career, I would like to look in the mirror and say: ‘I got the most from my sporting career.'”

“With Newcastle I didn’t have that feeling from the start,” he admitted.

By contrast, he noted that “In the meantime my marvelous transfer to Inter has come along, which I think will be incredibly beautiful.”

“We’re talking about it now, but it’s yet to really sink in,” he admitted.

Gosens also spoke about leaving Atalanta, stating that “they bought me for €1 million and then sold me on for a hefty fee, it was a win-win situation.”
