Roma Coach Jose Mourinho: “Alexis Sanchez Scored A Wondergoal For Inter But There Was A Foul In The Buildup”

Roma head coach Jose Mourinho feels that despite the quality of Alexis Sanchez’s goal for Inter to seal yesterday’s Coppa Italia win over the Giallorossi, it should have been disallowed for a foul.

Speaking to South American broadcaster ESPN, the coach gave the view that Nerazzurri midfielder Arturo Vidal had won the ball unfairly off of Sergio Oliveira in the immediate buildup to Inter’s second goal of the night.

The Nerazzurri had a one-goal advantage from the first half, but there were still a lot of nerves in the team protecting their slender lead, while the Giallorossi still felt that something was on if they could find a goal.

However, Sanchez produced a moment of magic with a powerful long-range effort to find the top left corner, which made Inter suddenly feel much more secure in their advantage, and made Roma’s task much more difficult.

Roma’s coach, however, feels that the goal should not have stood as there was a foul in the buildup to it in his eyes.

“He scored a wondergoal that changed the complexion of the match,” the coach said, “but at the beginning of the move leading up to it there was a foul in midfield and the referee should have gone to VAR and had a look at it.”

Mourinho also noted of his former player from Manchester United that “I spoke to him at the beginning of the game. In England he was not in his natural environment, but here he’s happy at Inter.”
