Former Inter and Napoli defender Mauro Milanese feels that neither team was really willing to push forward in the draw between his two old sides yesterday in Serie A.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster TMW Radio, Mialense emphasized that the match had seen both teams play within themselves somewhat in order to ensure that they avoided a worse result.

Napoli played an aggressive and proactive game to dominate long stretches of the first half, while the Nerazzurri had looked much more comfortable in possession in the second to earn their equalizer.

However, neither team looked like they were completely committed to chasing the win, perhaps in acknowledgement that a point was a fine result in the circumstances and allowing a direct rival to win would be highly damaging.

Milanese felt that this was the main dynamic of the match despite some moments of very positive play from both teams.

“It wasn’t a game with many chances,” he reflected, “neither of them wanted to lose. Napoli started very well. The first half was better for Napoli, the second half was balanced.”
