Inter’s appeal of the suspension of defender Alessandro Bastoni for Sunday’s Serie A clash with Sassuolo will be heard on either Thursday or Friday.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who report that the Nerazzurri are hopeful that they can get the 22-year-old’s suspension reduced so he is back for the weekend.
Bastoni was handed a two-match ban for his comments made to match officials in the aftermath of the Nerazzurri’s derby loss to AC Milan, but the Nerazzurri see this as an unusually harsh punishment for the infringement.
The club feel that in most circumstances, a one-match suspension and a fine would be the normal punishment for harsh words to a referee without vulgar language or threats, so the defender’s sentence should be changed to that.
Since Bastoni already served one match of his suspension in last weekend’s Serie A clash with Napoli, should his sentence be reduced to a one-match ban then he will be available for Sunday.
