Inter have hit the post or crossbar more than any other team in the Champions League this season, according to a report in the Italian print media today.

As has been pointed out by La Gazzetta dello Sport today, Inter are the team with the worst habit of hitting the woodwork in the Champions League this season having managed it five times.

The fifth time came last night as Hakan Calhanolgu struck the bar from inside the Liverpool box when he got on the end of Ivan Perisic’s pass. That was Inter’s clearest chance of the first half and the Turkish midfielder perhaps could have done better.

It is a statistic that perfectly underlines the theme of Inter’s performances in the Champions League this season. The Nerazzurri have been creating plenty of goalscoring opportunities but have been too wasteful in front of goal.

They lost the game 2-0 at San Siro against Liverpool.
