Former AC Milan attacker Beppe Innocciati has said that Inter could have wrapped up the Scudetto if they had beaten AC Milan in the derby recently, according to a report in the Italian media today.

Speaking during an interview with TMW, Beppe Innocciati was asked about the title race and he added salt to the wounds of Inter fans by pointing out how huge the 2-1 defeat to AC Milan could need up being in the content of the season.

“If Inter won the derby they would have secured the Scudetto. With Salernitana they can win and so they could get back into form. We are also waiting with curiosity for Napoli-Milan.”

Inter went into the Derby della Madonnina in February knowing that if they won, they would move seven points ahead of the Rossoneri and still have a game in hand available to make that gap 10 points.

The Nerazzurri were 1-0 up in that game and were in total control of the contest, but then French forward Olivier Giroud scored twice in the final 15 minutes and Stefano Pioli’s side took all three points.
