Inter defender Danilo D’Ambrosio believes that the team’s problem is as simple as not taking enough points from their recent Serie A matches.
Speaking to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset, the 33-year-old was straightforward in identifying the team’s inability to get wins in their recent matches and its psychological effect.
The Nerazzurri’s 1-1 draw with Fiorentina in Serie A yesterday evening made it two draws in a row, and in the seven matches they’ve played in the league since the start of February they have managed just seven points.
This is far from the kind of form that the team will need to show if they are to go on and win the Scudetto for a second year in a row, and far from the imperious form that they showed in November and December.
There has been a search for an explanation for why Inter’s level has appeared to drop so much in recent matches, but for D’Ambrosio it is as simple as the team having entered a period of frustration.
“The problem at Inter is that we’ve taken seven points from seven matches,” he said without mincing words. “If we’d picked up made a few more points, we could think differently, with more calmness.”
“However, we’ve lacked precisely that calmness and mental levity that allowed us to play great football for months,” he added.
