Inter defender Stefan de Vrij is happy with how the team played to secure a 3-1 win over Roma in this evening’s Serie A clash at the San Siro.
Speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN after the match, the Dutchman gave his immediate reaction to the match and also spoke about the significance of the win against Juventus which kicked of the Nerazzurri’s five-match winning run.
Inter will have known that beating Roma would not be easy given that the Giallorossi had not lost in twelve Serie A matches, but they took confidence that they had won their last four matches across all competitions.
The Nerazzurri will only take further confidence from the nature of their victory this evening, seeing off the Giallorossi fairly comfortably to go top of the table.
There is still a long way to go in the season for Inter, but this win is yet another step taken and a very positive indicator for the matches to come.
“As far as team spirit we did well to approach this match,” he said, “today the team played on the pitch like they understood the significance of what was being played for. We played a great match.”
Of the importance of the win over Juventus, he said that “We had certainly felt like it was a match that was either in or out, after having to suffer a lot we took it home and kept on winning. And we want to continue to do so.”
Of the team’s approach against Roma, de Vrij said that “Today against a team who are good on the counter it was important to attack with balance.”
“We were always on track, as a defender you have to communicate to fix the team’s shape in the event that the ball is lost in order to stop the counterattack.”
