Former Inter defender Riccardo Ferri feels that despite having received criticism this season, Samir Handanovic remains a vital player for the Nerazzurri.
Speaking to InterTV, Ferri praised the Inter captain for his impact on the team even in a season where he has received some criticisms for his form.
Handanovic has let a few high-profile errors creep into his game this season, and this has let some to question whether he is still the right man to protect the Nerazzurri’s goal.
However, the Slovenian has also made a number of important saves throughout the season which have at times preserved points for the team.
Ferri believes that, regardless of some of the criticisms which the 37-year-old has come in for, the role that he has continued to play for the Nerazzurri for much of the season remains a very important one.
“Handanovic was the protagonist in the last few games,” he said of the captain, “he has suffered a lot of criticism and it’s only right to recognize when he does well. In the long run, his values and professionalism are clear.”
The former defender went on that “He, Barella, D’Ambrosio, and Darmian are a positive influence even when called on from the bench. Every coach would like to have them on their chessboard.”
