Inter defender Stefan de Vrij won a €4.7 million compensation case over former agents Sports Entertainment Group over his transfer from Lazio in the summer of 2018.
Today’s print edition of Italian business newspaper Italia Oggi detail the backstory of the legal case by the Dutchman against his former agents.
SEG had been representing de Vrij at the time of his move from the Biancoclesti to Inter on a free transfer, but as the player discovered later, the agency were not named as his official representatives in the documents for the move.
Rather, the agency were named as representing the Nerazzurri, and they earned a €9.5 million commission for having the Dutchman sign a contract with the club before July 10, 2018 which did not see him earn more than €50m million.
De Vrij and his lawyers successfully argued that this represented a clear conflict of interest on the part of SEG, and that the player was deprived of money based on the arrangement.
The court ruled that the agency had violated Article 7:418 of the Dutch civil code by failing to inform de Vrij of the conflict of interest, and ordered them to pay the player compensation of €4.7 million.
