Inter midfielder Nicolo Barella will have his condition evaluated today to see whether he will be available for the Nerazzurri’s Serie A clash with Empoli on Friday.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who also report that the likes of Hakan Calhanoglu and Denzel Dumfries will be back in the starting eleven to face the Tuscans.

Barella had to come off with a knee problem late in Inter’s 2-1 Serie A win over Udinese yesterday, the one major black spot on the match for the Nerazzurri.

Initial assessments from the team’s medical staff were that it was nothing more serious than a bad bruise, and no more exams are scheduled, but he will be evaluated today to see whether a return against Empoli will be realistic.

Meanwhile, Calhanoglu will return in midfield after having been suspended during yesterday evening’s match, whilst Denzel Dumfries is also set to replace Matteo Darmian in the starting eleven.

Alessandro Bastoni should be fit for Friday’s match following some muscular fatigue, although he could be left out in order to be rested for next week’s Coppa Italia final against Juventus.
