Former Inter striker Nicola Ventola feels that the Nerazzurri’s display against Udinese on Sunday was reminiscent of how they played under Antonio Conte.

Speaking on Christian Vieri’s Twitch channel, as reported by FCInter1908, Vieri highlighted the deep defensive display in particular as resembling the style of play under Conte.

Inter have changed their style of play up this season under Simone Inzaghi compared to how they approached matches last campaign when Conte was head coach.

Despite playing a nominally similar formation with three defenders, wingbacks, and two strikers, the team have looked to play with possession more and defend more proactively using an organized high press.

Ventola feels, however, that on Sunday the Nerazzurri turned to an approach that was closer to how they had played under their former head coach that what has become their normal style this season.

“Inter in Udine were deeper, almost as if they were Conte’s Inter,” he said. “They defended deeper in the pitch than usual, the defeat against Bologna had an impact.”

He added that “Perisic was ridiculous, just crazy.”
