Inter wingback Matteo Darmian did not foul Cagliari’s Charalampos Lykogiannis in the act of scoring the Nerazzurri’s opening goal yesterday evening, according to Italian media.
The moment is analyzed in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who deem the 32-year-old’s rising above Lykogiannis not to be a foul.
Inter had what they thought was an opener disallowed against the Rossoblu correctly after Milan Skriniar handled the ball in the process of bundling it over the goalline, but the second time they had the ball in the back of the net there were no issues.
Cagliari players protested to referee Daniele Doveri and argued that Darmian had barged into Lykogiannis in the act of rising to head in Ivan Perisic’s cross, but for the Gazzetta there was no issue.
Meanwhile, the newspaper also notes that there was no issue of offside in Lautaro Martinez’s goal for 2-0 in the second half, despite some half-hearted appeals by the Rossoblu players.
