Italian national team head coach Roberto Mancini feels that it is unfortunate that Inter striker Andrea Pinamonti did not find any opportunities with the Azzurri during the Nations League matches last month.

Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport in an interview published in today’s print edition, the coach expressed the view that it’s too bad that the 23-year-old was not able to be a part of the Nations League fixtures.

Pinamonti enjoyed a breakthrough campaign last season, scoring thirteen goals on loan at newly-promoted Empoli, and he has earned the transfer attention of a number of clubs within Italy as well as abroad.

Not only this, but the 23-year-old is now in contention for a place in attack with the national team, something that would have been unthinkable twelve months ago.

The Nations league fixtures could have represented a chance for Pinamonti to break through, but in the end he was not used.

“I was curious to see more of him, and they would have been precious international matches for him,” Mancini said. “It’s a shame he didn’t play during the Nations League.”
