Newly-signed goalkeeper Andre Onana is already showing that he could rival Samir Handanovic for the starting spot at Inter with his preseason performances.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, who suggest that the Cameroonian already looked up to the task in his appearance from the bench in a friendly against Monaco yesterday evening.

Onana was signed as the long-term successor to Handanovic in goal, but the captain extended his contract until next summer and does not look to be keen to relinquish his starting spot just yet.

The Slovenian will remain for long enough to ensure that Onana can settle in without too much pressure on his shoulders, but the situation is not exactly clear as to how the hand-off will take place for the starting spot in goal.

Onana will not immediately displace Handanovic in goal if he is not thought to be ready, but the 26-year-old gave a good account of himself in his appearance against Monaco and this could indicate that the transition will not be too far away.
