Napoli are considering a move for Inter forward Alexis Sanchez this summer now that Dries Mertens has been confirmed to have left the club.

This according to Chilean news outlet RedGol, who claim that the Nerazzurri forward has come onto the Partenopei’s radar as he has a similar profile to the Belgian and significant Champions League experience.

Mertens will not stay at Napoli for another season, with the Belgian’s contract having expired at the end of last month and now agreement having been found on a new deal.

Now, the Neapolitans are in search of a forward to take the 35-year-old’s place, and Sanchez is a player who they see as being capable of filling a similar role in the squad to that of Mertens.

It remains to be seen if Napoli will make a serious move for Sanchez, a player who the Nerazzurri are hoping to offload during the summer transfer window.
