Legendary former Inter defender Beppe Bergomi feels that if Milan Skriniar is sold, then the Nerazzurri will end the summer transfer window with their squad having improved.
Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport in an interview published in today’s print edition, Bergomi gave his thoughts on the Nerazzurri’s transfer window and identified the departure of Ivan Perisic as one key hurdle for the team to get past.
There is still more than a month left to go in the summer transfer window, but the sense is starting to creep in that Inter’s business is all but done.
A flurry of activity in June climaxed in the return on loan of Romelu Lukaku on loan from Chelsea, whilst the past couple of weeks have left a sour taste in the form of failures to sign Bremer and Paulo Dybala.
Now, with Bremer off the table, the Nerazzurri are more inclined to keep Skriniar who had at one point looked close to Paris Saint-Germain, perhaps signing one low-cost defensive option.
Bergomi assessed the situation by saying that “Leaving aside the financial issues, the current defense has been shown to have a perfect balance, and not touching it would benefit the team.”
“I see Inter as having improved with only the left-wingback position being an unknown,” he continued, “we’ll have to get used to not having Perisic around anymore, Gosens is a different type of player who will have to be looked at in a different way.”
“I would like to see the German combined with the right kind of complementary player on the right,” he suggested.
And regarding the return of Lukaku, Bergomi said that “His partnership with Lautaro is tried and tested, and the attack has become more complete. And personally I have a weakness for Dzeko, I think he can give Inter something.”
