Former Inter defender Daniele Adani believes that Romelu Lukaku fitting back into Inter’s team will not be entirely straightforward and that he will need an adjustment period with Simone Inzaghi’s style of play.
Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Libero in an interview published in today’s print edition, Adani gave his thoughts on Lukaku’s reintegration into the Nerazzurri on a tactical level.
Lukaku has only been away from Inter for a single season, but in that time quite a bit has changed in spite of many of his old teammates remaining.
The biggest change is perhaps the change on the bench, with Antonio Conte having been replaced by Simone Inzaghi who in a single campaign in charge has already put his stamp on the team and gotten them playing much differently than they had under his predecessor.
Inzaghi was one of the individuals who pushed hardest for Lukaku’s return, so it seems clear that the 29-year-old is a player who he wants to work with, and the feeling appears to be mutual.
However, this does not mean that the chemistry between the pair will instantly be what it was between the striker and Conte.
Adani noted that “In Conte’s game, the Belgian giant had a deadly role. Inzaghi, however, has diversified the role and spread things out tactically and Romelu, in optimal physical condition, will have to adapt.”
“Have you wondered why Lautaro just had his best season without Lukaku?” he posted.
