Chelsea could turn to Inter wingback Denzel Dumfries as their main transfer target following a failure to sign Jules Kounde from Sevilla.

This according to UK news outlet Evening Standard, who report that coach Thomas Tuchel wants the club to try and side a wingback and that Dumfries would be one of their main targets.

Chelsea have already showed an interest in Dumfries, with the 26-year-old’s name coming up during talks for the loan return of Romelu Lukaku to Inter.

Now, having failed in their bid to sign Kounde who looks to be headed to Barcelona, the Blues are aiming to strengthen with another defensive signing, and they could change their strategy.

After missing out on a priority target in Kounde, rather than looking for one more centre-back with the Frenchman’s profile, they could keep captain Cesar Azpilicueta and move him permanently to centre-back to fill out the options in the back three.

With the Spaniard potentially no longer playing out wide, Tuchel would then want another wingback option, and Dumfries is a player who they are increasingly keen on, particularly because they see the Dutchman as more attainable than Milan Skriniar.
