Inter are still pushing to try and sign defender Trevoh Chalobah on loan from Chelsea, and only see Lazio’s Francesco Acerbi as a backup option in the event that they miss out on the Englishman.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who report that whilst Acerbi is a player in the Nerazzurri’s thinking, they are still pursuing other targets ahead of him.
Inter have just over a week left before the transfer window slams shut, and so only a few days in which to secure their final signing of the summer, a low-cost defensive arrival to replace Andrea Ranocchia as a backup to Stefan de Vrij.
Acerbi has been a name persistently linked with the Nerazzurri for this role, but they have not yet taken the decisive steps to sign the 34-year-old.
Rather, Inter are still working to try and sign one of their targets ahead of Acerbi before they finally settle on the 34-year-old, and Chalobah now looks to be foremost among these.
