Borussia Dortmund defender Manuel Akanji looks to be on the verge of joining Manchester City from Borussia Dortmund, with Inter set to miss out on the 27-year-old.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, who report that the Premier League champions are set to get a deal wrapped up for the Swiss international before the transfer window closes.

Inter had been targeting Akanji as a potential low-cost option to reinforce their defense this summer, with the 27-year-old’s contract situation at Dortmund potentially making him available for a bargain fee or on loan.

Additionally, it had been reported that the Nerazzurri were also thinking of moving for Akanji on a free transfer next summer if he were to stay at the Schwarzgelben without extending his deal which expires at the end of June 2023.

However, it now looks as thought the Cityzens will sign Akanji, beating out the likes of Inter as well as AC Milan and Leicester City.
