Inter coach Simone Inzaghi will have to lead his team to a win over Torino in Serie A this weekend if he is to avoid talk of the team entering full crisis mode.
This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, who argue that only three points against Torino would be enough to steady the Nerazzurri ship after yesterday’s 2-0 defeat at the hands of Bayern Munich.
Inter’s blushes were spared against Bayern by a solid goalkeeping display by debutante Andre Onana and the sense that the Germans weren’t really pushing to run up the scoreline higher than 2-0.
However, the unmistakable sense was that the Nerazzurri had been outclassed in virtually every respect by the German champions.
After six matches, Inter have managed to beat three of the weakest teams in Serie A on paper, including two newly-promoted sides, whilst losing to two direct rivals in the league before being dismantled by Bayern in the Champions League.
Inzaghi’s team have not been convincing, although it would still perhaps be a bit too early to truly say that the team are in crisis given that there simply hasn’t been enough time and evidence to fully judge them.
Anything other than three points from this Saturday’s Serie A clash with Torino at the San Siro, however, would see Inter’s position in the league table become truly uncomfortable and deepen questions about their form, something the coach will be desperate to avoid.
