Viktoria Plzen could face punishment from UEFA after racial taunts from fans of the Czech club appeared to have been directed at Inter goalkeeper Andre Onana in yesterday evening’s Champions League clash.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, who report that the apparent taunts and racial abuse when the Cameroonian was on the ball could lead to action by European football’s governing body based on how they’ve dealt with similar incidents in the past.

Plzen’s fans could be heard to be jeering particularly loudly at Onana among Inter players, and there is a feeling that the taunts had a racist edge to them.

Should UEFA determine that the alleged racist fan behaviour was serious, then it is likely that Plzen will be sanctioned for it, possibly by restrictions on fans attending home and away games in Europe, in addition to possible punishments for individual fans.
