Inter captain Samir Handanovic spoke with the entire squad before yesterday’s Serie A win over Sassuolo, and also with goalkeeper Andre Onana personally.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who report that the 37-year-old spoke in his role as captain despite no starting in a Serie A match for the first time all season.

Prior to yesterday’s match, Handanovic had started all of Inter’s matches in the league this season.

However, Onana was given the nod over the captain against the Neroverdi, following some impressive performances in the Champions League which suggested that the Cameroonian was close to being ready to fight for the starting spot full time.

Handanovic was displaced from his role on the pitch for the first time in the league, but this did not mean that his role as captain was done.

The Slovenian gave a rousing captain’s speech to the entire team ahead of the match, and also had a supportive talk with Onana individually.
