Andre Onana’s newfound status as first-choice goalkeeper at Inter is set to be confirmed with another start this evening against Barcelona.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, who report that the trust to start such an important match will represent another giant step forward for the 26-year-old in his Nerazzurri career.

The Champions League has already been where Onana has been given the chance to prove himself this season.

The Cameroonian hadn’t started any of the Nerazzurri’s early league fixtures, but was handed a debut against Bayern Munich.

Inter didn’t win that match, but Onana impressed, and so was handed further opportunities against Viktoria Plzen and then Barcelona last week.

The Nerazzurri did win both of those matches, and the sense was that the goalkeeper deserved some of the credit for making them a more solid unit at the back.

Accordingly, Onana was given his first Serie A start over the weekend against Sassuolo.

The 26-year-old had a solid match, and the feeling is that from here on out he will be the player expected to start in goal ahead of Samir Handnaovic.

Against the Blaugranas this evening, then, Onana will have the chance to further prove what he had already showed against the same opposition at the San Siro a week ago.
