Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi is happy with how his team played against Salernitana but feels that they must not take their foot off the gas.
Speaking to InterTV after this afternoon’s 2-0 win, the coach stressed that the Nerazzurri must keep playing the way that they did to see off the Granata rather than becoming complacent.
Inter needed a good performance to beat a Salernitana team who have already gotten themselves into midtable this season.
That is exactly what Inzaghi’s men produced, showing that their heroics against Barcelona during the week had still left plenty in the tank.
Now, however, the team can hardly dwell on this victory, as they already have Fiorentina on the way next weekend after one of their rare weeks off.
After that, more matches to come in Serie A and the Champions League before the World Cup break show exactly why Inzaghi wants his players to remain focused.
“The team looked good to me,” the coach said.
“The guys were very focused, we played a careful game, conceding few chances,” he continued.
“I asked them for great concentration after Barcelona and the team played like a team until the 94th minute.”
Of striker Lautaro Martinez, Inzaghi said that there were “Positive signs and also statistics as well.”
“But I look at how he’s been on the pitch, how the players helped each other our through the difficulties and how those on the bench also contributed.”
“These are positive signs but we must continue this path where we’re growing,” the coach said.
He noted that “We have experienced players, and younger players who are doing well at the moment too.”
“We needed them, everyone.”
Inzaghi noted that “Correa returned today, so Dzeko and Lautaro will be able to catch their breath after Barcelona.”
He gave the view that “The results are making us calm, in this moment they’re coming, but we can’t relax at this point, we have to keep putting in the performances and getting these results.”
