Former Lazio and Napoli midfielder Dario Marcolin believes that Inter midfielder Nicolo Barella has shown very high quality with his goals against Barcelona and Salernitana.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN, Marcolin praised the 25-year-old for the quality of his runs and finishes from inside the penalty area.

Barella has never necessarily been the most prolific goalscorer from midfield.

The former Cagliari midfielder has a goal from range in his locker, and has occasionally found himself in scoring positions closer to goal.

However, Barella has managed to score important goals in each of the Nerazzurri’s last two matches.

With his runs and finishes, the 25-year-old has shown timing as well as technique and composure to get behind defensive lines and scores.

Marcolin feels that this is an extremely important thing for Barella to add to his game, and that he has demonstrated that he can do it at a very high level.

“Inzaghi has transformed him into a real attacking midfielder,” Marcolin said, “he scored a goal similar to the one he did against Barcelona.”

“It’s the surprise factor, there’s never a midfielder tracking him, he has great timing on his runs in behind, these are goals of a top player.”
