Inter striker Edin Dzeko feels that the team have the experience that they will need to meet the upcoming challenges head on.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, the 36-year-old noted that the Nerazzurri have a number of hugely important matches on the way in the context of their season, but backed them to have the right mentality.

Dzeko and his teammates have achieved something massive by reaching the Champions League knockout rounds for the second season in a row from what many saw as the most difficult group of the campaign.

The Nerazzurri can hardly rest on their laurels, however, as they still have many matches coming thick and fast before the World Cup break commences.

The team will have to rely not just on their technical and physical qualities, but also on having the mentality necessary to play their game in the tough circumstances.

Dzeko, for his part, believes that the experience that the players have is something that has always been an asset for them.

“There’s a lot of experience in this team,” Dzeko said after the Nerazzurri’s win over Viktoria Plzen, “we knew what winning this match would give us.”

“Even when they had the ball, we had to work hard to get back and defend.”

Asked how far he thinks the Nerazzurri can go this season, Dzeko responded that “Right now, we can just say that we’re in the next round.”

And of the return of striker Romelu Lukaku, he said that “It’s good to see him get a goal, because as strikers those give us confidence.”

“This is especially important given the matches that we have ahead of us.”
