Inter defender Stefan de Vrij feels that the Nerazzurri are showing improvements despite another 2-0 defeat at the hands of an excellent Bayern Munich team in the Champions League.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster SporstMediaset after this evening’s loss to the Bavarians, the 30-year-old expressed confidence about the team’s performance levels despite their first defeat in a month.

Inter did not need a result against Bayern given that there was no result which could have affected the outcome of the group.

However, the Nerazzurri will have still wanted to give a good account of themselves away to one of Europe’s elite.

In this respect, Inter’s performance gave somewhat mixed signals, as there were some positive signs but, ultimately, as in the first meeting between the two teams this season, the German champions simply outclassed them.

Nevertheless, de Vrij is looking on the more positive side of things, noting that “Qualifying for the round of sixteen was our main objective.”

“We came to Munich to play a great match,” the Dutchman continued, “they’re a very strong team and we knew it would be difficult.”

“But we did our best,” the defender went on. “You can see the progress and the improvements we’ve made, even this evening with some players who got the chance to show what they can do.”

Asked what he thought the Nerazzurri’s secret was to qualifying for the knockouts, de Vrij replied that “We had a big team meeting before the match against Barcelona – from then on we’ve had a different spirit and attitude.”

“Sunday against Juve will be very important, we want to win,” he added.
