Inter midfielder Kristjan Asllani is disappointed that he was not able to start in the Albanian national team’s friendly match against Italy yesterday evening.

Speaking to Albanian broadcaster SuperSport after the match, as reported by FCInterNews, Asllani expressed his disappointment at being left out of the starting eleven, though he does understand that it’s the coach’s decision.

Asllani did get on the pitch for Albania as they fell to a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Italy.

The 20-year-old could well have been hoping for more of an opportunity to show what he is capable of, however.

The Albanian has been making his mark in Italian football with Empoli and then Inter, and will have been very familiar with many of the Italian players including Nerazzurri teammates Alessandro Bastoni and Federico Dimarco.

However, Asllani only actually appeared for around twenty minutes for his national team on the night.

“I’ve been waiting for this match for two months and I hoped to start, but I didn’t start,” he said after the match.

“Still, there are no problems, I came on and then did my best to help the team.”

Asked why he feels that he is not a regular starter for Albania yet, Asllani replied “You’ll have to ask the coach, I train at my best but then don’t always play.”
