Inter captain Samir Handanovic is set to leave next summer in search of more playing time.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that the 38-year-old has no intention of extending his contract past the end of June 2023 if he is to stay as a backup to Andre Onana.
Handanovic started the current season retaining his first-choice status in Inter’s goal, but has been displaced in the role by summer signing Onana.
The Slovenian does not yet feel ready to accept a backup role, and expects that he can still play a couple more seasons in a starting role.
Accordingly, given that Onana now looks to be fairly firmly established as the Nerazzurri’s Number One after the first part of the season, Handanovic would be ready to leave the club.
The Slovenian’s contract expires at the end of June 2023, and it does not look likely that he will extend it.
