Inter striker Lautaro Martinez is expecting that the Argentine national team’s second group stage match at the World Cup against Mexico will be like a final for them.
Speaking in a press conference, as reported by FCInterNews, the 25-year-old stressed that for the Albiceleste, the match against Mexico will be one in which winning feels like the only option.
Argentina’s hopes of qualifying for the round of sixteen at the World Cup are still alive.
However, the shock loss at the hands of Saudi Arabia in their group stage opener have meant that the margins for the Albiceleste are now razor thin.
A win and three points against Mexico would mean that suddenly things would look very much back on track for Argentina.
However, a failure to take all three points would suddenly mean that things are looking very nervy headed into the final group stage match against Poland.
“It will be like a final,” Martinez said of the match, “we have to win.”
“We’ve shown that we’re strong, tomorrow will be absolutely vital.”
“We don’t feel the pressure,” the Inter striker continued, “we believe in the work that we’ve done.”
“We’re calm, and we’re confident that we’ll represent Argentina in the best way on the pitch.”
