Inter Vice-President Javier Zanetti is not too worried about the indifferent form of striker Lautaro Martinez at the start of the World Cup in Qatar.

Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, the Nerazzurri Vice-President backed Martinez to break his duck sooner rather than later, and also explained that the club are working to understand why goalkeeper Andre Onana has left the Cameroon squad.

Martinez had been one of the Inter players expected to shine at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

The Nerazzurri striker has become a key player leading the line for his country.

However, across the Albiceleste’s first two matches, Martinez has failed to get on the scoresheet, barely having a kick in their second group stage match against Mexico.

For his part, the 25-year-old’s countryman Zanetti feels that it is only a matter of time before his best form is found.

“It could still be his World Cup yet,” the Nerazzurri Vice-President said of Martinez.

“He’ll break his duck soon, it’s certain, perhaps already against Poland.”

“You needn’t worry, Lauti,” Zanetti continued, “the last two matches would have been tough for any striker to play in, but I don’t see any problems.”

Zanetti also addressed the departure of Inter goalkeeper Andre Onana’s departure from the Cameroonian national team squad following reported tactical disagreements with his coach.

“We’re trying to understand what happened,” he said, “we want to have a good discussion with the player, there’s certainly been contact already.”
