Former Hellas Verona midfielder Antonio Di Gennaro feels that when Romelu Lukaku is not in top physical condition, Edin Dzeko is the better option for Inter in the striker position.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster TMW Radio, via FCInterNews, the former midfielder gave the view that Dzeko is better able to adapt his game when he is not at his best physically compared to Lukaku.

Dzeko and Lukaku represent two different kinds of options in attack for the Nerazzurri.

Lukaku has tended to lead the line by threatening in behind, able to use a combination of pace, strength, and technique to quickly carry the ball past defenders to either score or set up teammates.

Meanwhile, Dzeko plays more by linking up the game, often coming deep to use his technical ability in tight spaces and passing vision to unlock matches.

In the view of Di Gennaro, the former’s style is reliant on him finding his best condition physically, whilst the latter is able to cope even when he is not in peak condition.

“Everyone at Inter is waiting to get Romelu Lukaku back, but in my opinion Edin Dzeko is the better player,” he said.

“If Romelu Lukaku isn’t at his best physically, then he struggles to perform, while Dzeko finds ways of compensating on a technical level, in my view the Bosnian is better than the Belgian.”
