Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi is aiming to start an attacking duo of Romelu Lukaku and Edin Dzeko in Inter’s Serie A match against Napoli next month.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that the coach is aiming to have both of the two strikers fit and in form when the Nerazzurri face the league leaders on January 4.
Inzaghi still has a few weeks to prepare for the team’s return to Serie A and consider his approach.
Lautaro Martinez will be a late returnee to training considering he has been given a vacation after winning the World Cup with Argentina, whilst Joaquin Correa is still getting back to fitness.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan has been tested out at second striker and would constitute one possible option for Inzaghi in attack against Napoli.
However, the coach is keen to try out a partnership of Lukaku and Dzeko.
It was never any secret that former Inter coach Antonio Conte had wanted to sign Dzeko from Roma in the past, for the precise purpose of playing him in an attacking duo with Dzeko.
This idea could finally become a reality in Inter’s return to Serie A action next month against Napoli.
