Inter President Steven Zhang gave his final approval to the choice to make cryptocurrency company DigitalBits the club’s main shirt sponsor this season despite having been warned of the risks involved.

This according to Italian football finance news outlet Calcio e Finanza, who report that it was the Nerazzurri President’s choice to sign an agreement with the US-based company, who are now unable to make the payments on their contract.

After having had one season with Socios.com as their main shirt sponsor last time around, Inter partnered with cryptocurrency company DigitalBits for the start of the current campaign.

The partnership had barely gotten started before the financial issued experienced by DigitalBits have cast its future in serious doubts, given that the company has been unable to make the payments owed contractually.

According to Calcio e Finanza, Zhang had been warned of the possibility that volatility in the cryptocurrency could lead to unexpected setbacks in the deal with DigitalBits, but had made the decision to approve the deal anyway.
