Inter are set to try and negotiate a reduction in striker Romelu Lukaku’s wages if he is to extend his loan at the club from Chelsea past the end of the current season.

This according to Italian news outlet Calciomercato.com, who report that the Nerazzurri would have little intention of continuing to pay the Belgian’s current wages, which as it stands are the highest in Serie A.

Even though Lukaku took a significant wage reduction to join Inter from Chelsea over the summer compared to what he earned in the Premier League, the 29-year-old is still the Nerazzurri’s highest earner.

Not only that, but the striker’s wages are in fact the highest in Serie A.

Inter do not want to continue making an exception in their wage structure for the Belgian, particularly given that he has so far failed to make an impact on the pitch.

Accordingly, the club will ask Lukaku to lower his wages if he extends his loan next campaign.
