Inter’s second string eleven looked to be well below par based on the team’s performance against Parma in the Coppa Italia on Tuesday evening.

This is the view in today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews, who argue that only defender Stefan de Vrij and midfielder Kristjan Asllani looked like they were capable of coming in for the regular starters without the level dropping precipitously.

Inter coach Simone Inzaghi went with a heavily rotated eleven against Parma in order to preserve the fitness of most of his regular starters who had just played two Serie A matches.

The likes of Roberto Gagliardini, Danilo D’Ambrosio, Joaquin Correa, and Robin Gosens received what have become relatively rare starts.

In all cases, the fact that some rust may have built up due to lack of use might be a valid excuse for their relatively error-prone displays, but there is not question that whatever the reason, they were poor, according to Tuttosport.

Asllani put in as good a shift as could be expected to look like the Nerazzurri’s most on-form midfielder in the match, whilst de Vrij proved that even though he is no longer one of the first names on the team sheet, he still knows how to do his job at the heart of the back three.

Otherwise, Tuttosport argues, the team looked like beyond the first-choice starting eleven, Inter’s squad has become slim pickings.
