Inter picked up a significant win against a major rival in AC Milan in the Supercoppa Italiana yesterday, confirming a sort of “Big Match Inter” style that had previously been seen in statement victories over Barcelona and Napoli.

This is the contention in today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who praise the Nerazzurri for once again finding the right formula to manage their toughest matches.

If “big” matches had looked to be Inter’s Achilles Heel earlier on in the campaign, as unbalanced displays to lose to the likes of Lazio, Milan, and Roma pushed the team’s Serie A title charge of course, now they look to be the Nerazzurri’s strong point.

1-0 wins against Barcelona in the Champions League and Napoli in Serie A have given the Nerazzurri a big boost in both competitions.

The style of both of those wins was reliant on a tough-minded defensive approach and compactness between the lines, but never saw the Nerazzurri simply retreat and sacrifice their attacking prowess.

Against the Rossoneri yesterday, Inter once again showed that they have the right balance for approaching this type of opponent.

Simone Inzaghi’s team hardly conceded chances against an opponent who are on paper one the most formidable they could come up against, and who had put three past them back in September.

Just as importantly, the Nerazzurri looked ruthless in punishing any defensive errors that the Rossoneri made.
