Inter are set to go after Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard to replace Milan Skriniar when the Slovakian leaves in the summer.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that the 26-year-old will be one of the Nerazzurri’s main targets to reinforce the defense after Skriniar leaves on a free transfer.

Skriniar will stay at Inter until the end of the season after the club did not sell him to Paris Saint-Germain in the dying days of the January transfer window.

However, the Slovakian’s departure is only a matter of time, and the Nerazzurri are accelerating their search for a defender to take his place.

Bayern defender Pavard is considered to be an ideal profile, as the Frenchman’s versatility, capable of playing at either right-back or centre-back, means that he would have no trouble adjusting to the right-sided role in a back three.

The former Stuttgart defender’s contract with the German champions is set to expire at the end of June 2024, and he is not inclined to extend his deal given that playing time is not easy to come by, particularly after the arrival of Joao Cancelo from Manchester City.

There will likely be a host of clubs keen to sign Pavard should he be put up for sale in June, but Inter will certainly be among them.

Meanwhile, the Corriere reports, the Nerazzurri could sign two defenders in the summer, with the futures of both Stefan de Vrij and Francesco Acerbi beyond the end of the season uncertain.

If this is to be the case, then Lille’s Tiago Djalo would be Inter’s main target in addition to Pavard.
